Description

This event is part of the Pride in London Festival, and is presented by Mermaids, supported by Barclays.

Mermaids charity supports gender variant children, young people and their families, as well as providing resources, training and information to supporting professionals. Parenting a transgender child can be a lonely experience, and many trans children and young people face daily discrimination and prejudice. As part of the Pride in London Festival, Mermaids, with the support of Barclays and London Pride will be offering a day event. This is an opportunity for families and young people dealing with gender variance to learn more about the work we do, and meet others to share experiences and gain peer support. There will be speakers and role models from within the trans community to help empower young people and their families to achieve the best possible outcome in often difficult circumstances, along with practical information and peer support.

If you are not a registered volunteer or Mermaids member, an email will be sent to you asking for details of your own situation before places will be allocated, and only gender variant children, young people and their families plus registered volunteers will be given entry. This is to protect the privacy and confidentiality of families and young people. This event is not open to professionals or media, or interested parties.

Our age remit is young people up to 20 years of age, and family supporting these children and young people.

Lunch and refreshments and the venue are being provided by Barclays, allies of the LGBT community and Mermaids.
